Jay Rockefeller Repeating 40 Year Old Vietnamese Propaganda
April 8th, 2008 at 01:25pm Matt DiBari
Ed Morrissey at Hot Air has the story.
McCain was a fighter pilot, who dropped laser-guided missiles from 35,000 feet. He was long gone when they hit. What happened when they [the missiles] get to the ground? He doesn’t know. You have to care about the lives of people. McCain never gets into those issues.
Jay Rockefeller is an Obama supporter whose judgment Senator Obama has repeatedly brought up in the primary against Hillary Clinton. Of course, Obama doesn’t seem to know or care how Jay Rockefeller actually voted, but that’s an issue for another day.
In Jay Rockefeller, Wes Clark and Gloria Steinem part of the Democrats strategy for November seems to be to belittle and even demonize not just John McCain, but military service as a whole.
That should go over well.
Orson Swindle says it best in the response at The Political Punch (emphasis mine).
Senator Rockefeller’s statement is an insult to all the men and women who are serving or have served in America’s military. Had Senator Rockefeller served himself, he would appreciate and understand that most who have been to war emerge with a much deeper concern for humanity than they otherwise might. If he knew what he was talking about, he would know that John McCain wasn’t dropping laser-guided missiles at 35,000 feet in 1967. Barack Obama has a responsibility to denounce Senator Rockefeller’s smear against John McCain’s character and military record. The question remains: Does Senator Obama have the courage to stand up and hold himself to the principles of ‘new politics’ he outlined in his book, “The Audacity of Hope?
UPDATE: Rockefeller apologizes….

Lt. Cmdr. John McCain back in 1967:

Woohoo! A point of agreement. Jay must GO! He’s an embarrassment to the rule of law. He’s trying to grant retroactive immunity for crimes not yet admitted to, meaning crimes WERE committed, otherwise “immunity” is pointless.
Rockefeller needs to take his Verizon bribes and go home.
As for McCain, he admitted was trying to bomb a civilian power plant when he was shot down, technically a war crime. SOURCE HERE

Very interesting link, Broder. It’s from a website that supports Duncan Hunter, although one might suspect they really support Hillbama. I especially liked this bit:
It is incumbent upon McCain to prove to the American people that the 5 1/2 years he spent at the mercy of communist interrogators did not leave him with mental health issues that could hinder him in making snap decisions “if the White House phone rang at 3 a.m.”
Sure, he probably has mental health issues–who wouldn’t, after enduring years of captivity? My question is, what are Earbama’s and Hitlery’s excuses? One thinks he is the messiah; the other thinks she can lie her way into the White House.
You know, Broder, in your world, Bush is a war criminal. Cheney is a war criminal. Rice and Rumsfeld are war criminals. One may contend that you suffer from serious mental health issues…

In an insane world, normal looks crazy. In a criminal world, innocent looks guilty.
Contend as you must. November is calling. The big money is on Obama.
Place your bets.
Shame about the keefer invasion, though. I like this board because personal “blogger-on-blogger” attacks aren’t as pervasive. Oh well. All good things must come to an end.

I don’t think Rockefeller’s apology is even close to making this situation right. This is a clear smear against McCain — in direct opposition to Obama’s supposed “new politics.” But much like with Wright, I doubt Obama will distance himself from Rockefeller even a smidgeon.

Obama needs to denouce Rockefeller for selling out our right to privacy by trying to give retroactive immunity to the telecoms. Rockefeller is a traitor. All Democrats need to denounce Rockefeller.
Obama’s camp already issued a denouncement of Rocky’s gaffe.
Let the recall begin!

Let the recall begin!
Dream on, Broder–Jay’s gotten away with far worse than this. He’s a Donkaroach, immune to ethics and integrity. You should idolize him, son…

I think he owes an appology to the military. I’d be more accepting of the ’slip of the tongue’ excuse if he didn’t also belittle the service of all the men and women in uniform.

Scary thing is that Rockfeller has a high position on the intellegence comm. and he doesnt know that we didnt have laser guided missiles in 1967.
