Obama calls for a “diplomatic surge” round of talks with IRAN. That TRAITOR. How dare he agree with Petraeus AND Crocker. What kind of Democrat is he, anyway?
When asked if Americans were in a “proxy war” with Iran, Ryan Crocker said, “It may be that the Iranians see it in that light, we certainly do not.”
But he also added that “we don’t want to have just what you describe as a proxy war with Iran inside Iraq, and that is why we are willing to sit down with Iran face to face for talks on Iraqi security at the invitation of the Iraqi government. We’ve had three rounds of those talks and we’ve told them we are ready to again.”

Congressive, big difference. Sitting down with Iran with no preconditions and sitting down with Iran AT THE INVITATION OF THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT.

I don’t see how an invitation by Iraq qualify as a “precondition?”
Besides, are we that WEAK? The Shia president of Iraq must invite us to talk to the Shia president of Iran, otherwise it’s a bad idea?
Apparently, according to Petraeus, we’ve already sat down with Iran on three previous occasions, no doubt giving Iran opportunity to thank us for removing all their mortal enemies in the Middle East for them, i.e. Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, al Qaeda, as well as giving them reason to crow about commanding the presence of the “great satan” (their words, not mine)? We’ve handed them regional supremacy on an oil-soaked silver platter already.
