Obama - Small Town America Clings To…

Ben Smith of Politico documents Senator Obama’s remarks about small town America…

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

While generally condescending and overreaching, Senator Obama’s biggest problem appears to be religion once again.  Stating that people cling to religion because of economic hardship and not faith is rather insulting.  It’s ironic he asked for understanding of his pastor’s perspective, but lacks an understanding of small town America.

Steve Schmidt of the McCain campaign stated, “remarkable statement and extremely revealing. It shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking. It is hard to imagine someone running for president who is more out of touch with average Americans.”

I just heard Karl Rove say that with these small town comments BHO just lost any chance he had of winning in PA. As one who grew up in small town PA, I think this will not sit well with those “typical small town folks”. It comes off condescending and elitist.

Obama being his usual typical liberal snob self. It is going to be so much fun watching this little lightweight lose in November.

So you’re saying there aren’t small towns with closed factories and desperate people? Or that there is no comfort found in religion during hard times? Do people not attempt to explain their woeful existence by blaming others for their woes?

Maybe I missed the “Girls Gone Wild - Allentown Partydown” edition…

If you truly believe there is no problem then I can understand why you’re confused by his statements.

BTW, is there any way to activate the “Preview” button on this blog like the other? It would help.

None of us is saying there aren’t small towns with closed factories and desperate people, congressive, or that there is no comfort found in religion etc. But that isn’t what Sen. Obama said and you know it. He said that economic hardship has caused these people to become xenophobic, intolerant, gun carrying, isolationists.

Barack Obama explains it all. Once again a politician speaks the unvarnished truth and those who are stung by the facts they so say they love are angered at being shown them.

“People cling to their guns.” Well, it is THEIR property. Have You seen the Obama/ Hillary record on guns. Their is no doubt that Hillary and Obama will be trying to restrict, ban and confiscate peoples guns. Years ago I wanted to go to gunsmithing school and eventually open up a store. With the Clinton gun ban, I thought, I better not. I’d end up sinking a bunch of cash into a business, only to have the rules change when I get half way into it. My Guns are my Property and it is real to me, Why would I vote for someone who wants to take my property. And increase my taxes.

The liberals have slogans like “If you work for your money, your a democrat. If your money works for you, your Republican.”

This whole thing about democrats for the working man is hard to believe when it is coming from billionares like George Soros, or Clintons with their 109 million and off shore accounts ect.. Does Obama expect us to give up our faith? and put our faith in Him? With his record on guns, taxes, gay marriage, abortion ect… NO WAY!

There’s a big difference in finding comfort in ones religion during hard times, and clinging to ones religion because you’re desperate.

His statement was condesending at best and insulting at worst. To paint small town people this way dismisses their beliefs, their choices, and the way they live as reactionary. I live in small town America, I don’t remember ever seeing anyone’s faith or core beliefs change with the economy.

Obama is making alot of mis-statements towards the end of his campaign career. Bill and Hillary have been on the attack against Obama since the democratic elections started. Hillary will start the same tactics against Senator McCain to cause him to become on the defensive.
