Geoff,
First of all good luck on your finals.

Second of all... that post from Novak is downright funny. It is an article by a blatant partisan who applies what he “believes” the outcomes will be of the policies of someone he does not agree with.

This statement is one of the funniest things I’ve read. This guy is a drama queen.

Or, on the contrary, the salivating determination of enemies to celebrate our visible moral weakness, and to slay their hated enemy while we bow our heads, standing there as weak and frightened supplicants? When a head is lowered from weakness, they strike it off.

Another classic talking point…

If the United States shows signs of weakness, surrender, and a one-sided departure from Iraq, the rejoicing of those who predicted that they would in the end defeat us will profoundly strengthen their resolve for the next battle. Further, without an offensive thrust in Iraq, any military forts or airfields of ours would be sheltered in a defensive enclave — announcing to those who hate us that they should keep killing two or more Americans every day, drip, drip, drip, until the American people cannot stand it any more. Weakness once shown invites fiercer aggression.

Nope… no fear-mongering going on here.

They would soon — to save their families — begin to yield more and more space to jihadists, terrorists, and promoters of sharia law. Free nations by 2016 will be far weaker than now

This isn’t an article on what he thinks the outcomes would be as a result of stated policies. This is an article on how “SCARY” he can make an Obama presidency look. The jihadists will take over and kill us all! The medical profession will be decimated. It will be rainy cats and dogs! EEK!

Let’s apply the same logic and go thru what the outcomes of 4 years of McCain could be...

1 - Still spending at least $12 billion a month in Iraq with no end in sight. Meanwhile, the Iraqi government will continue to make ginormous profits. After all… McCain does say we will be there until we win.
2 – Our soldiers still on the front-lines in Iraq with no end in sight. Meanwhile, the GOP supporters will continue to say that “progress is being made”, “we are winning” and the Iraqis are “almost ready” to take on the fighting themselves.
3 – Iran: Well, he sang the song. So apparently bombs will start flying shortly after he takes office.
4 – His “League of Democracies” will take place alienating those that are not “allowed in” causing a rift along strict lines. The world will be divided between those “with us” and those “against us”.
5 – Thousands of Americans will continue to go without healthcare due to the costs. Those who can afford it will continue to get the best healthcare available. Premiums will continue to be sky high because all of those who can’t afford can not get preventative care, so they will continue to overwhelm out Emergency Rooms.
6 – The economy will be in a continual slowdown since gas prices will continue to rise.
7 – The income gap will continue to grow at a ridiculous pace. The haves will be able to afford the insanely high gas, food and healthcare prices. The have not’s struggle will only multiply. The middle class should be pretty well battered and shrunk by the end of his 4 years.
8 – Gas prices will hit $6 a gallon basically paralyzing any working class person that needs to drive to work as well as the nation’s economy as a whole.
9 – We will owe more and more trillions to China.
10 – The neocons will continue to claim that Democrats are evil and the Repubs are the only way to preserve our freedom.

Bottom line ……… everything will continue on just as it is now.

Seriously, do you think things like this

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/13/AR2008051301899.html

would happen under an Obama/Edwards presidency?

Bush and McCain only care about the lobbyists and their corporate backers.

Four years? I am thinking eight years of Obama, eight years of Edwards, and eight years of whoever is the next rising Democrat who cares about the middle class and the poor.

I am imagining much of Obama's first four years will be taken up fixing the foreign policy that Bush screwed up while having Bush & Co prosecuted for war crimes.

The second four years will be spent taxing the top 1% at the 90% rate, like FDR. And penalizing all the companies that moved to the Cayman Islands or Dubai.

Obviously you were the victim of that horrible economic time from 1993 through 1999 when the US economy provided so many jobs and so much wealth many economists feard it would overheat. How much did gasoline cost in May 2000?[We find 1.109 on 10 May 2000 Source: EIA]

Are you really better off now than you were eight years ago? Do you really think that religious scholars who work for the AEI are the right people to be gazing into the crystal ball to determine what an Obama administration would or would not do? Religion cannot save America young man only Progressive Democracy and Compassionate Faith can. When Obama takes office get prepared to be rewarded despite your dissent by a big healthy dose of both.
