Obama in Iraq - NOT

The Obama campaign showed its sensitive side today by becoming unglued at the suggestion that Senators Obama and McCain make a joint trip to Iraq in the near future…

“John McCain’s proposal is nothing more than a political stunt, and we don’t need any more ‘Mission Accomplished’ banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq’s leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge. The American people don’t want any more false promises of progress, they deserve a real debate about a war that has overstretched our military, and cost us thousands of lives and hundreds of billions of dollars without making us safer.”

Since Senator Obama has been to Iraq only once on a two day tour in 2006, this lead The National Review to ask, “Is Obama Willing To Meet Ahmadinejad, But Not Petraeus?” and Red State, Barack Obama: He’ll Meet With Ahmadinejad, But Not With the Troops in Iraq.  For a candidate with virtually no foreign policy, it is odd that he’d pass up any oportunity to gain a better understanding of the region, the troops, and the politics of Iraq.

    McCain was born in Panama!

    According to the constitution’s 14th amendment:
    “persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

    To be President according to Article II Clause 5 of the constitution:
    No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

    McCain was not natural born but was naturalized and only natural born citizens are eligible to become President.
    Maybe he was a citizen when the Constitution was adopted?!
    Last time I checked Panama has never been part of the United States!
    Congress can not pass laws saying people born out of the United States are natural born citizens.
    That does not follow the Constitution. It says “people born in the United States!”

    The corrupticans spitting on the Constitution again!

    Can’t pick and choose in the Constitution!
    Could mean the second amendment says nothing about guns!
    I still bear my arms on my body and nobody has tried to infringe on my right to carry them on my body.

    Look… I respect McCain and I appreciate that he has gone to Iraq a few times. I don’t think that makes him better prepared to be President than Obama, but I do respect he has gone there.
    Of course… that last time he was strolling thru the open air market claiming that things were back to normal, meanwhile…… he had soldiers around him, helicopters above him and a bullet-proof vest on. But hey, he was able to stroll thru the market.
    Would that make everyone feel better? If Obama walked thru a heavily guarded market place and bought a rug???

    As for a McCain-Obama joint trip to Iraq…. the problem I see with that is that it would be more of a media circus that it need be. If any politician goes there, it should be about talking directly with the troops and commanders. It shouldn’t be a photo-op.
    The Obama campaign has said he is planning a trip to Iraq after he wins the nomination.

    Making a big deal out of this is silly.
    The headlines of the two right-wing wacko publications (National Review and Red State) are ridiculous and is trying to scare people saying that Obama would rather meet with some wacko Iranian President than a U.S. soldier. No… no scare tactics there.

    Joe, I think that’s fair that Sen. Obama wouldn’t want to go jointly, it just seemed odd that his campaign had such an extreme reaction at the suggestion. I do think it’s important he go and see what it is like their now, and talk to members of the who are military serving there.

    Would you also agree that those headlines saying Obama would meet with Iran and not US soldiers are just ridiculous?
    I would certainly hope so.

    Sorry about my bad grammar on that last post - lets try ‘the military who are serving’.

    They are definitely political headlines, but there is substance to the questions about whether he goes to Iraq or whether he is willing to meet with Ahmedinejad. Tough and reaching, but not completely rediculous. :)

    Laughably rediculous! He HAS gone to Iraw and he HAS talked with Petraeus.

    The differnce is the last time McSame went to Iraq he was caught flat out lieing about the progress made there.

    If you prefer to be lied to, why not just vote for Bush for 3?
