Obama: Palin a Pig in Lipstick?

A little bit of a tizzy has taken hold of the web over a comment Sen. Obama made yesterday on the stump about Sen. McCain “putting lipstick on a pig.” Some have interpreted that as being a jab at Gov. Palin.
I wouldn’t reach that conclusion, or I’d at least give Sen. Obama the benefit of the doubt. To assume he was referring to Gov. Palin with that “joke” one would have to think — unfairly in my view — that Sen. Obama is either 1) incredibly crass and/or 2) a complete idiot. He is many things I don’t care for, but neither of those.
This controversy should fall by the wayside.

The “tizzy” this created is just stupid.
If “Putting lipstick on a Pig” wasn’t a long-standing saying, then people can make a beef out of it. This is just dumb.
Thanks for not joining in on the circus. Now if only you could talk some sense into Kevin Patcik, Mark Noonan and Matt Margolis over at Blogsforvictory since they are having a hissy-fit over there.

This faux-outrage is flat out ridiculous. As an Obama-supporter, I do hope McCain keeps pushing for an apology for this and Obama keeps talking issues.

I think Obama did take a swipe at Governor Palin. The key word is “lipstick”. Watch the video and listen to the crowd reaction when Obama said the word. And to the reaction when he finished the statement. He either said it because he thought it would rile up the gun-hugging crowd so he could loftily deny saying what they thought he said OR because people would listen to his wisdom and association Governor Palin with pigs and thereby dismiss her as a viable Vice Presidential Candidate. This intense personal attack shows how desparate Obama has become.

You are pretty impressive that you know what Obama was thinking and what he “really meant”.
Quick… what I am thinking right now??? Or maybe you only have that ability to know what Obama is thinking and not just some average joe.
Have you ever heard the saying of “Putting lipstick on a pig”? Have you EVER heard that before yesterday? The saying has been around for a long long time. Are we supposed to change the use of certain phrases just because the gender of a person in the race?
This is such a non-issue only hard-core Obama haters have this fake outrage.

Obama’s tasteless comment upset alot of women, you can try to sanitize it, but a statement like this clearly shows Obama has no class.
Sarah Palin actually has executive experience, Governor, Mayor. She has actually had to make decisions, work with businesses, work with both parties, She has an 80% approval rating from the people in her state.
Obama and Biden just vote down party lines, what kind of leadership skills does that qualify for?

If you want to talk qualifications and what candidates have done, then fine….. it is about time someone talks about issues and what a candidate will do to better the average American’s life.
To say you are outraged over this lipstick on a pig comment is just foolish, and that is the point of the post.
Were you outraged (or were Hillary supporters outraged) when McCain said Hillary’s healthcare plan was like putting lipstick on a pig? I would hope that you were as outraged then as you are now.

I see McCain kinda using it in a different context. Was Hillary talking about being a pitbull with lipstick a few days earlier?, probably not.

Then where is he hiding it? Surely he would share it with Bush so the Republicans don’t look like such dismal failures after eight years. He’s in power, you know. He has Bush’s ear, you know.
He’s got nothing. Nothing. Or else he’d make Bush a hero and sweep the Republicans back into power.
Nothing. And he’s lying about knowing how to catch bin Laden. If he did and didn’t share that info with Bush, he would be guilty of aiding and abetting the enemy. He would be intentionally shielding bin Laden from capture until the American people made him president. That would be extortion. That would be treason.
So either he’s a liar, or a traitor, take your pick.

I think the U.S should spend some time today reminding the Taliban and Al Qaida fighters about 9/11 and pound them with a huge artillary attack.

If we concentrated on those that actually attacked us on 9/11 and not going into Iraq, maybe that revenge would have already come
I think what congressive is saying that if McCain has these great plans, where have they been for the last 6 years? If he knows where binLaden is, why hasn’t he shared that with the military? If he knows where he is, think of the guaranteed victory bin laden is caught/killed because of McCain’s knowledge.

Al Qaida was in Iraq, remember, they started a civil war between the Sunni and Shiite Arabs.
Do you remember the “Cut and Run” strategy Obama wanted? He wanted to surrender and hand over power to Al Qaida, along with some of the world’s largest oil reserves. With all that wealth, Al Qaida would’nt need to hijack planes, they could buy state of the art warplanes and fly bombing raids right over U.S cities. The “Cut and Run” approach would have allowed Al Qaida to grow and prosper. And a few years down the road, they would be much more powerful.

I disagree, until the Al Qaida leadership is killed or captured, “Show no mercy!”. Why give them a chance to regroup and recruit new members??

March 30-April 2nd - A bomb exploded on a TWA flight 840 from Rome as it approached Athens airport. The attack killed 4 U.S. citizens who were sucked through a hole made by the blast, 1 infant, and 9 injured, although the plane safely landed.
April 6 - An explosion at the “La Belle” nightclub in Berlin, U.S. soldiers’ hang-out, was bombed, killing 3 and injuring 230 people, including 79 U.S. soldiers.
Sept. 5 - Pan Am Boeing 747 Flight 73 en route to Frankfurt and on to New York hijacked by Palestinian terrorists, with 379 passengers, including 89 Americans, 22 hostages killed, 127 wounded.
Sept. 9 - Hezballah kidnapped Frank Reed, President of American University in Beirut, and held for 44 months, and Joseph Cicippio, and Edward Tracy who were each held for 5 years.
Sept. 17 - A 10-month series of terrorist bomb attacks in France begins. One bomb in Paris kills 5 and injures 52.
1987
A car bomb exploded outside the back gate of the U.S. Embassy in Rome and rockets were fired at the compound from across the street. One passerby was injured in the attacks.
1988
Feb. 5 - US Marine Corps Lt. Colonel Higgens, Chief of the U.N. Truce Force kidnapped and murdered by Hezbollah.
March 16 - 4000+ Kurdish civilian bodies found after Saddam Hussein ordered nerve gas attack (weapon of mass destruction) in northern Iraq, after they revolted against his rule from Baghdad. 1.5 million relocated, 200,000 disappeared.
April 5 - 122 held hostage after a Kuwaiti Boeing 747 was hijacked and diverted to Iran, then Cyprus. Kuwait refused requests by hijackers to release 17 convicted terrorists. After 15 days the hijackers were granted asylum in Algeria and released their hostages.
June 26 - US Naval Attache killed in Athens, Greece.
Dec. 21 - Pan Am Flight 103 - Boeing 747 from London to New York, blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland, by a bomb. All 259 passengers and 11 on the ground were killed, including 35 Syracuse University students and many U.S. military personnel.

June 12 - A bomb exploded aboard an unoccupied boat used by U.S. consular staff.
Sept. 19 - 171 passengers killed when French UTA flight 772 explodes in mid-air over Niger.

Jan. 25, Virginia, U.S.A. A Pakistani terrorist opened fire with AK-47 on CIA employees standing outside the building. Two agents, Frank Darling and Bennett Lansing, were killed and 3 others wounded.
Feb. 26 - World Trade Center in New York badly damaged by a massive bomb by Islamic terrorists. The van bomb was planted in an underground garage and left 6 people dead and 1042 injured and almost � billion dollars in damage.
Feb. 26 - A bomb exploded inside a cafe in downtown Cairo killing 3, 18 wounded, 2 U.S. citizens.
July 5 - In 8 separate incidents, 19 Western tourists traveling in southeastern Turkey were kidnapped, including U.S. citizen Starger, after weeks in captivity, they were released.
Oct - Killing of U. S. soldiers in Somalia.
1994
July 18 - 86 civilians killed and 300 wounded in bomb attack on Jewish social centre in Buneos Aires, Argentina.

Jan. 22 - Islamic Jihad militants blow themselves up amid a group of soldiers near Netanya, killing 21. Operation Bojinka is discovered on a laptop in a Manila, Philippines apartment, in which Osama bin Laden was planning to blow up 12 planes as they flew to the U.S., plus kill the Pope.
March 8 - Attack on US Diplomats in Pakistan.
April 9 - Islamic Jihad suicide bomber attacks military convoy in Gaza, killing 7 soldiers and an American tourist.
May 5 - Five foreign oil workers murdered by Islamic GIA terrorists in Algeria.
June 26 - Assassination attempt made against Egyptian President Honsi Mubarak by Islamic radicals who ambushed his motorcade.
July 4 - Six tourists, including two U.S. citizens taken hostage in Kashmir, India. Terrorists demanded the release of Muslim militants held in Indian prisons. On Aug. 13 the decapitated body of the Norwegian hostage was found with a note stating that the other hostages also would be killed if the group’s demands were not met. April 19 - Eighteen Greek tourists were gunned down near the historic Pyramids in Egypt by Islamic terrorists aiming to destroy the country’s tourist industry.

you missed the point. I agree, show no mercy until the AQ leadership is caught/killed.
The point is that is what we SHOULD HAVE been doing for the last 7 years.
You know it has been proven that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and nothing to do with AQ (until we invaded).
If we concentrated on Afghanastan and not wasted time, money and lives in Iraq, maybe that revenge would have already been served and you and I wouldn’t have to be still “hoping for it” 7 years later.

Joe- I know some people could care less about foreign policy, terrorism, and the military. I think they are very important issues for this election, maybe not at the top of everyones list, but it is all interconnected. Throughout history there has always been wars. And there will always be wars. Hopefully the next president will be able to avoid more wars. But like Pearl Harbor or 9/11 ect… sometimes the war is unavoidable,
Terrorists started a war here, and they sucessfully started a civil war in Iraq, between the Sunni and Shiite Arabs. If ignored They could easily start new wars. Look these,

Imagine Russia responding with their military, to terrorist attacks, and in pursuit of the terrorists that flee into NATO lands, terrorists dressed in Russian uniforms fire on NATO troops, so it appears the Russians fired on them, NATO troops fire on the Russian troops because of NATO alliances the U.S gets dragged into it. It becomes a big mess, just like the Iraq civil war, but on a much larger scale.
Joe Biden is actually much more qualified than Obama on foreign policy + military issues, Biden had a decent Iraq strategy, when the civil war in Iraq was spinning out of control there. He wanted to split the country into three different states; A Shiite state, a Sunni state, a Kurdish state. I think that could have worked out.

Obama is talking about taking out Terrorist leaders. He IS saying let’s concentrate on Afghanastan. He even has said (and the GOP blasted him for it) that if need be, we should have concentrated strikes within Pakistan.
How many of those terrorist attacks that you’ve listed were in Iraq or involved the Iraqis? So don’t tell me that the Iraq war was about getting Terrorists.

In an ideal world, complete cooperation between different countries creates roads paved with gold, leading to a global utopia. But, historically, and in the real world, human nature and nationalism seem to return individual country’s to a goal of self interest and national security. Rogue leaders and unexpected events, such as Putin and Georgia … Iran, atomic bombs, terrorists and Israel … Chavez’s ambitions … Al Quada … Chinese expansion … etc., always seem to upset the international apple cart of idealists. In addition, we should not take for granted our 200+ year experiment of freedom and capitalism, and be so willing to gamble it away for a socialistic notion which stifles the individual innovation and initiative which made this country great … and a standard of living which makes everyone around the world want to live here! And, since many have decided to also make this a partisan political discourse, by assuring us that Obama, the messiah, has all the answers, allow me to respond to that as well. Obama has no experience, or credentials. When given the chance in the senate, Obama did nothing except to show up and vote present 160 times. Despite his flowery speeches, his track record reveals a focus on personal ambition, associations with anti-American racists and terrorists, massive flip flopping, questionable loyalty to political positions and long time friends, a desire for socialism, and forced redistribution of America’s wealth. He casually promises everyone a chicken in every pot, even if it is the chicken that lays America’s golden eggs. Economics 101 … Every farmer knows that even if you get real hungry, you never eat the seed crop. One of the reasons McCain keeps going back to the issue of character is because although Obama makes great speeches, if his character and integrity are questionable, it doesn’t matter how good his plans sound. Policies and promises from an ambitious politician who can’t be trusted, are equivalent to building a utopian sky scrapper on a rotten foundation.
P.S. Today Obama talked about more jobs, something McCain has been insisting on since day one … except Obama wants to raise taxes to the very people who provide jobs, while McCain wants to cut taxes to businesses as a way to promote jobs
